the armpit biography

The Armpit is basically the result of three former Limp Bizkit Fansite owners deciding to unite forces. Colin Grist (Col) used to run a Limp Bizkit fansite named “bizkit site” (former URL : bizkitsite.cjb.net) which he started around the time “My Generation” was released. It was a small website hosted on GeoCities and made with the default GeoCities Page Builder. The site got some visitors, amogst which Fredrik Olsson (Fredrik) who became a fan of the site and later decided to build his own. He made “Bizkit Chaoz” (former URL : bizkitchaoz.cjb.net).

Around that time a lot of the old LB fansites from back in the day started closing their doors, so Col and Fredrik’s sites were among the last still open, and since they became friends they decided to just join forces. Thus “limp bizkit v.02” was created.

That website was getting quite popular and had a lot of good content written by Col and everything was going great. Meanwhile there was a Brazillian Limp Bizkit fansite around, ran by Marcelo Túlio (Marcelo), Daniela Pereira (Daniela) and Bruno Rodrigues (Bruno). The old URL was “limpbizkit.com.br” and it had a lot of visitors, including international ones because they offered a lot of great media.

Out of mutual respect for their work, Col, Frederik and Marcelo became pals and decided to join forces and create the “ultimate” fansite with Marcelo’s media, Col’s content and Fredrik’s graphics, taking everything to a whole different level.

To keep true to Marcelo’s original Brazillian following, there was also gonna be a Portuguese version of the site alongside the English one, basically merging “v.02” and “limpbizkit.com.br” together.

Daniela and Bruno were also on board and thus “The Armpit” was born with five webmasters constantly keeping it up to date. Its success was instant.

A few months after TAP’s birth, a major fansite closed down (Bizkit Under Ground – B.U.G.) and one of their webmasters, Dave, joined the TAP team thus bringing the total amount of webmasters to SIX.

Alex, who was a regular in the Limp Bizkit online community since the LimpBizkitFan.com days was both a fan of Col’s site and Marcelo’s, and was one of the first people to sign up to The Armpit Forum. Alex always wanted to start his own fansite, and even had a few domains registered (along with limpbizkit.org, which we still use today) but was always too lazy and unmotivated to start from scratch.

Alex lost interest in the band though, but after the Wrestlemania performance with Mike Smith, he thought the band was officially BACK so he asked Col and Marcelo if he could also join in and help out with content, PHP and graphics. At first hesitant about adding a “record-breaking” 7th webmaster, the crew eventually accepted his proposition and added one more on board. But, the problem with having so many people working on a site was that some of them had nothing to do. Col, Marcelo and Fredrik did most of the work for the English site, Marcelo, Daniela and Bruno handled the Portuguese site, and Dave and Alex had nothing to do.

So a decision was made to cut both of them from the team. The split was amicable, especially on Alex’s part, who knew it was his fault for being lazy and busy and not getting too much work in, so everything was alright.

The Armpit’s forum was the main attraction at the site, it was open before the site even existed and it was a great community. Initially it was hosted on the same server as thearmpit.net but because of bandwith troubles, forum member Christopher decided to help. He hosted the forum on his server and to this day hosts, updates and takes care of it.

Meanwhile Limp Bizkit were pulling their shit together, and finally they had released their first single “Eat You Alive,” and eventually their “Results May Vary” album. Music videos, appearances, the band was active and the site kept growing and growing, but it saw some internal feuds between the webmasters which concluded with Col leaving the site and starting his own fansite (The Barricade). Alex rejoined the team to fill in Col’s spot and unlike the last time, he kept busy holding the site together and designing new layouts and themes for the forum. He also used his old limpbizkit.org domain for the forum.

Eventually Col joined the team again but ultimately became way too busy to focus on the site. That was the case for all of the founding members except for Marcelo, so most of the original crew gradually left the site, including some of our oldest forum members and early moderators.

But in all of this time, a young guy who loved both the band and webdesign was helping the guys out with the site. His name was Max (Possessed-Rabbit), and after a bad experience on TAP which made him leave, decided to give it another go, and then befriended everyone in the team. At first he was helping Alex editing content for new designs, but then turned into a Forum Admin and started doing layouts on his own, right now being responsible for the last two versions (6.5 and 7). Max is now a full-time webmaster.

There have been many changes in the Armpit Crew and nobody is solely responsible for what the site is today. It is a team effort and a “work-in-progress” going strong for over 6 years and it is living proof that people from all over the world (Brazil, UK, USA, Sweden, Romania, etc...) can join in and create a free community for others to enjoy. Everyone who was ever involved in this site, from the webmasters to the news posters or regular forum members, deserves a pat on the back for pulling this off.

Since the early days to the present day, The Armpit remains the number one Limp Bizkit community on the web. Without being cocky we can proudly say we’ve always been the “go-to” place for people’s Limp Bizkit fix.

Unfortunately the band has had a lot of ups and downs and many other great Limp Bizkit fansites had to close their doors. The Armpit never did and we’re almost 7 years old. We take pride in that, and we want to thank everybody who’s ever visited this place.

The site is not as visited as it used to be, and neither is the forum. The overall interest in Limp Bizkit and fansites altogether (since the birth of social networking and musicians using it to interact with fans) dropped significantly in the later years.

The band is officially back though, they’ve toured Europe and we’re right here behind them, and behind their fans, reporting daily on what goes on. We will never really close our doors for any reason whatsoever, so rest assured, we’ll ALWAYS be here, and as long as we get some visitors, we’re staying.
